Ayahuasca Retreat

An intimate ceremonial retreat in the Sacred Valley

July 22 - 29th - (7 nights)

Only 5 spots available

Plant medicine work is sacred and holding a safe container is integral to the experience. While most retreat centers hold 20-30 people in a ceremony, this retreat is capped at 5 attendees.. The facilitators are able to give everyone individualized attention. Everyone is sung icaros to individually and also receive energy work during ceremony. The Icaros are sacred songs inspired by the medicine and the Shipibo lineage.

Felix and Safa will be leading the ceremonies while Scott, Kevin, and Patrick are there to help support you through the ceremony and during the retreat, making the retreat almost a 1 on 1 experience.

Meet the Staff

  • FOUNDER

Felix (Soi Pino in Shipibo) first began his medicine journey attempting to heal from Lyme disease contracted in 2008. At its worst, he experienced a wide array of symptoms: anxiety attacks, memory loss, brain fog, and organ failure. After little success with conventional treatment, his research led him to consider exploring ayahuasca as an alternative. In 2013 Felix traveled to Peru to receive the medicine, and after experiencing relief from his symptoms, decided to stay on long term to learn more about traditional healing modalities. Felix has spent the last five years working closely with the medicine and the Shipibo people. For the first two years of his apprenticeship Felix worked at well-established amazonian center assisting over 1000 people in ceremonies. Felix later left to go to Pucallpa receive more in depth healing and instruction with his maestro. Through the medicine he was able to find incredible healing and relief from the pains of Lyme. Through his maestro’s lineage, he has been given full permission from his teacher to serve medicine and to provide healing diets. With the blessing of his teacher Felix holds this medicine with great love and respect, and has a deep passion for service.

  • FOUNDER

Safa (Soi Kete in Shipibo) has been dedicated the plant medicine path for over fourteen years. In addition to her Amazonian apprenticeship with her maestro Soi, she lived in India for several years and trained in yoga. Her specialties were breathwork, mantra and study of the subtle or energy body. She ran her own yoga school and lead yoga trainings worldwide from 2011-2015. Through this work she gained extensive experience facilitating groups through deeply personal and transformational experiences.

Safa has been deeply involved in the study and practice of energetic healing for over seventeen years. Originally certified in Pranic Healing, she has since studied with many teachers of various modalities to broaden her repertoire of skills. She has been working with the Shipibo to learn energetic healing directly from the plants and brings this highly specialized work into the ceremony space.

Facilitating for various medicine centers in Peru, she has acquired a strong repertoire of emotional/mental processing tools that help to bridge western pathology and understanding with the Shipibo paradigm of healing.

  • MANAGING PARTNER/FACILITATOR

As an adoptee from South Korea and raised in the United States, he has been exploring his understanding of identity, family, community, and society throughout his life. Scott spent 6 months in Japan, before making his way to Seoul. What was initially going to be a one-year living abroad experience became an eleven-year exploration of his ethnic background and culture.

While in Korea he was involved in three startup businesses and spent his last five years working as an Executive Coach and Training Program Consultant. He studied Journalism and Advertising at the University of Oregon.

Scott’s innate curiosity lead him to Peru in 2014, and he quickly found himself working at a medicine center facilitating guests in retreat. Known for his compassion and presence, Scott has been working full time as a facilitator for the last several years and is currently apprenticing with his Shipibo maestro Laura Lopez.

Four rooms are private and one has shared accommodation for two people. All rooms come with private baths. Rooms are given on a first come first serve basis. There are many places to rest and reflect, from the library, to the sun decks and warm fireplaces. We have a growing library of books to choose from and encourage our guests to grab a cup of tea and make our houses, your own. As this retreat has 6 spots including Patrick, most guests will have private rooms including a desk and private bathroom.

Mana Rao means mountain medicine in Shipibo and the power of these great teachers is felt the moment you arrive. Ceremonies are held in in the beautiful area of Huaran, in the sacred valley of Peru. The area is very quiet and is located between the towns of Calca and Urubamba. We are cradled at the base of sacred Apu Pitusiray which stands tall at 4,991m or 16,375 ft. We have chosen this sacred area, as the energy of the land and mountains initiates a healing process before we even drink ayahuasca.

Breathwork

Patrick will be leading 4 breathwork workshops during the retreat to help you ground down, process your experience, and be more energetically open to receiving the powerful medicine. Patrick has sat with Ayahuasca 11 times including a 10 day dieta in the Amazon. He has personally sat with Felix, Safa, and the rest of the team and won't sit with anyone else with Ayahuasca any longer due to their experience and ability to hold space with integrity.

Intentions and Considerations

  • It is important to understand ayahuasca is not right for everyone, nor is the intensity of the Shipibo approach to space in and out of the ceremony. There are myriad ways both traditional and modern ayahuasca is practiced and it is important to choose a retreat that will provide the level of care you feel you will require.

As we were trained by our teachers, we continue to point each guest back towards themselves for the answers. We encourage guests to sit with their questions in the container of the plants for a time before requesting assistance. The plants are incredible teachers, yet require a sacrifice of having capacity to create quiet space to hear their subtle teachings. We feel there should be a balance between processing internally and aloud to gain the most from your time here. That is why it may be of benefit to have undertaken some degree of personal work prior to drinking ayahuasca so you are able to meet these spaces of silence with openness and curiosity.

With that said both Safa, Felix Patrick, and Scott have years of experience and process tools on hand for that which may arise during your inquiries.

  • Ayahuasca is a sacred medicine and should be approached with respect and humility. In that spirit, it is important to ask yourself what is calling you to work with the medicine. Physical illness, emotional/mental well-being and/or connection to the world of plants are all excellent reasons for reaching out. We have found that guests simply looking to have an ‘experience’ or ‘try ayahuasca’ will not be the best fit. If the intention is not well reasoned, the medicine will often respond with the same lack of lucidity. Coming with a clear intention as to what you are looking to receive, is like telling a teacher what you are looking to learn. It provides the teacher with a starting point and gives you a point of reference for the metaphors ayahuasca will weave.

  • The safety of our guests is of paramount at Body of Prana, we therefore require all guests to fill out a thorough questionnaire regarding their physical, psychological and pharmaceutical history. Through this screening we ascertain if ayahuasca is appropriate at this time. In certain cases of more complex trauma we may recommend you begin with other remedies and come to ceremony to receive icaros (healing songs) without drinking or drinking very little to begin with. If more detail is needed to make a final decision, a screening call may be required.

  • As ayahuasca spreads around the world there are many people offering ceremony from traditional lineages to neo-shamanic styles incorporating other traditions and practices. We work strictly in the Shipibo tradition, honoring the lineage and ceremony practices handed down by our maestros. In the Shipibo tradition the healers are known as onanya, which translates to “one who knows." This tradition requires that those serving medicine have apprenticed for many years and have been given permission by their teacher after careful evaluation their work. For more information about the medicine of the Shipibo people please click here. Ceremonies held at Mana Rao will be run by Felix and those held at Mexa Nete are run by our teacher Soi and his family.

  • Ayahuasca is a vine that grows throughout the Amazon, yet this word commonly refers to a tea containing the combination of the ayahuasca vine (Banisteriopsis caapi) and the leaves from a bush called chakruna (Psychotria viridis). This mixture has been employed for many centuries throughout the Amazon as a powerful healing tool and vehicle to awaken consciousness. The word ayahuasca is actually a combination of two Quechua words aya and huasca which translates as the death vine or soul vine. In the Shipibo tradition ayahuasca is referred to as oni (oo-nee) which translates as knowledge. This medicine produces powerful psychoactive effects that can address many deeply rooted issues from trauma and addiction to assisting one in life direction and purpose.
